Required Materials

Class Supplies

  • Director-approved instrument, bow, and case in good working order (see under Instruments) 
  • Black binder, 1” 
    • ​Pencil Bag
    • 1 Highlighter
    • 2 ​PENCILS for marking music (A musician ALWAYS has a pencil!) 
    • Music IN THE BINDER (keep all music through the course of the year)
  • Method books (pictured below): 
    • ​Philharmonic, Symphony, and Chamber Orchestras need:  Habits of a Successful String Musician  
    • Sinfonietta and Camerata Orchestras need:  Habits of a Successful Middle Level String Musician


Practice Materials

  • Personal music stand (there are events to which each student must bring his/her own stand)
  • Rosin and soft cloth for cleaning
  • Metronome/Tuner (or a smartphone app that fills this need)
  • Extra strings for emergencies 
  • Cello/Bass rock stop
  • Violin/Viola shoulder rest
